document_SS25: about johans.

Johans is a creator of sensory rituals. Working at the intersection of generative media, poetry and philosophy, he builds environments where perception is fractured and reassembled through rhythm and noise. His studio practice, [sumari], is built on a "methodical yet restless" approach to transmedia, where ideas migrate across mediums—from audiovisual sets to wearable archives—until they find their necessary form.

His work is deeply rooted in the 15 years he spent navigating the Amazonian wilderness, a landscape defined by both ecological wonder and systemic corruption. Rejecting the capitalistic "franchise" models of traditional transmedia, Johans advocates for a fine-arts framework where technology serves as a tool for collective reflection rather than mere spectacle.

From pioneering real-time IMAX performances to award-winning experiments in AI-driven narratives, Johans’ work has been exhibited at Spectra Studio, SCA Gallery, and FLUX Festival. He is currently developing a new iteration of nuwarii, a speculative multimedia opera where nuwarii, an anthropomorphical plant, interacts with an entity of machine and nature into death and rebirth.

Through this practice, johans seeks to create works that ask not only what we see, but how we feel and who we become together.
