document_SS25: about johans.
johans is a transmedia artist whose work merges technology, memory, and ritual into immersive collective experiences. Raised in the Peruvian Amazon by environmental scientists, he grew up surrounded by diverse stories, landscapes, and rhythms that continue to shape his sense of the metaphysical. These origins ground his practice in ecology and storytelling, even as his work expands into digital and speculative realms.
Moving fluidly across film, sound, installation, and performance, johans creates environments where perception is fractured and reassembled — where time collapses into rhythm, memory emerges as scent, and absurdity reveals itself as ritual. Each project resists passive observation, instead becoming a temporary community where audiences are invited to reflect, disorient, and reconnect.
His approach is both methodical and restless. Ideas migrate across mediums until they find their necessary form: an audiovisual set, a large-scale installation, a short film, or a collaborative performance. What unites them is a drive to test how media can move beyond spectacle — toward experiences that open shared states of being.
Through this practice, johans seeks to blur the digital, physical, and metaphysical, creating works that ask not only what we see, but how we feel and who we become together.
